Iteration #1:
Simulated Selves
Death Masks
As we continued to develop our ideas, we considered producing large scale replicas of our likeness from digital scans of our face. These would be overlaid with projections of the AI avatars responding to each other and speaking directly to the audience. Drawing on the idea of the death mask (plaster impressions taken after death as a method of remembrance), we felt this version would create an unsettling experience with strong links with the notion of digitally archiving the dead.
Following confirmation of festival venue, we decided that projection-mapping would not be suitable for an outdoor festival without highly controlled lighting conditions. We also felt that the presentation would limit interest for young audiences and be better suited for a gallery environment.
